Health alert issued for Newtown bar and Bondi gym

NSW Health issued an alert on Friday evening, urging people who attended Kuleto’s Cocktail Bar at 157 King Street, Newtown, between 6.30pm and 9.30pm for at least one hour on Friday, 28 August to immediately get tested and isolate.

Visitors to the bar will be required to isolate for 14 days (until midnight on 11 September), and stay isolated for the entire period, even if a negative test result is received.

The venue has been close for cleaning.

Along with Kuleto’s, health alerts were also issued for Bondi Platinum Fitness First and Randwick Fitness First.

Attendees at the gyms will be contacted and advised whether they are casual or close contacts.

Those who visited the gyms from Sunday, August 30, to Tuesday, September 1, are being advised to monitor for symptoms and if necessary, get tested and isolate until results are available.

News of the latest health alerts comes after 76 new cases of COVID-19 and 11 deaths were recorded in Victoria in the past 24 hours.

It’s a drop from yesterday’s numbers, when 81 new infections and 59 deaths were recorded. NSW also recorded eight new cases on Friday.

There have been 26,136 cases of COVID-19 recorded in Australia so far. The death toll currently stands at 737, according to federal health department figures released on Friday night.

Several protests are planned for Melbourne today, but police have warned those who attend that they will be arrested and fined.
